2020: Mayflower Sets Sail; Launches RIA

Mayflower Advisors launched its own independent registered investment advisor (RIA) firm and transitioned to BNY Mellon's Pershing as primary custodian. This strategic shift to a fiduciary approach affirms Mayflower’s autonomy and positions the practice to best meet their clients’ evolving financial needs with a flexible, scalable infrastructure and custom planning solutions.

Dimitriou Named ARA President

The American Retirement Association (ARA) elected Steven Dimitriou as its President. Dimitriou previously served as President of the National Association of Plan Advisors (NAPA).

Jump$tart Coalition of MA Formed

Larry Glazer and the Mayflower team spearheaded formation of the Jump$tart Coalition of Massachusetts, the local chapter of a national nonprofit coalition committed to providing students with a solid foundation of financial literacy. Larry Glazer continues to serve as Jump$tart Coalition of Massachusetts’ Chairman of the Board.

PlanSponsor Magazine named Steven Dimitriou “Retirement Plan Advisor of the Year”2 and The 401kWire ranked Dimitriou among the top-40 “Most Influential Advisors in Defined Contribution”3.

Partnership Launched

Lloyd Glazer, Lawrence Glazer and Steven Dimitriou launched the Mayflower practice. The co-founders, who continue to lead the team, worked together at securities brokerage and investment banking firm Advest, Inc.

1In 2014, Financial Planning recognized Larry Glazer as Pro Bono Planner of the Year. Financial Planning Magazine created and conducted the survey for Pro Bono Planner of the Year. The award is presented to a financial advisor who has made a leadership contribution to a nonprofit organization by arranging for the group to receive dedicated professional financial services, including pro bono advice and financial life skills. Among other efforts, Larry was recognized for his founding and role as volunteer Chairman role of the Massachusetts Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy, membership on the Massachusetts State Treasurer’s Financial Literacy Task Force. Financial Planning does not disclose data related to the total candidate pool surveyed for this recognition.

2In 2009, PlanSponsor recognized Steve Dimitriou as Retirement Plan Adviser of the Year. PlanSponsor created and conducted the survey for PlanSponsor Retirement Plan Adviser of the Year. Award nominations are solicited from advisors, their employers, plan sponsors and working partners (investment vendors, pension administrators, accountants, attorneys, etc.) and evaluated by qualitative factors, including input from clients, and quantitative factors that include the ability to impact plan participation, cost savings and service enhancements. PlanSponsor created and conducted the survey for Top 100 Retirement Plan Advisers. Advisers included in PlanAdviser Top 100 are taken from entries for the PlanSponsor Retirement Plan Adviser of the Year awards, with nominees evaluated solely on quantitative factors submitted during the same process, including ability to impact plan participation, cost savings and service enhancements.
